About Us
We purchased our first Labrador pedigree black bitch in the early 1990’s when we first moved to our farmlet on the Kapiti Coast. Although we had labs as kids many years before.
We thought it would be fun to bred from our beautiful girl and keep one of the puppies to add to the family. Amazingly we had 11 puppies from the first litter and a mix of black, yellow and chocolate. We did not even know that was possible back then. We kept a beautiful chocolate boy who we had for 13 years. Our first girl lived to the ripe old age of 16 after another 2 litters.
We took a break from breeding and attempted to get back into it about some years ago but we did not feel the dogs we had at the time were suitable to be bred from.
We have bred horses for many years with the aim of always trying to improve the animal. We believe the same to be true of dogs and especially to focus on the soundness and temperament.
5 years ago I began the search to acquire another black female labrador puppy and thankfully found Denise at Ashdale Kennels in the far north who allowed me to purchase a puppy for breeding – assuming the puppy passed all her tests.
Which she did. Maggie has a wonderful engaging temperament, is very active, and very sound. She is a pretty good hunter and does her bit to keep the rabbits under control.
Maggie had on puppy in first litter with an AI mating. That was Freda who we have retained. May breed from in the future subject to health checks.
Maggie had a second litter on 7th October 2022 with 10 healthy puppies after a hands on mating with Ashdale Kennel’s beautiful big boy ‘Chase’. We have retained a black male ‘Freddie’ and yellow female ‘Maisie’.
